For Immediate Release:

Subject: Homecoming celebration
Date: Tue, 8 Aug 2000

As the Campbell River Homecoming 2000: "Return of the Musgrave Salmon" is
fast approaching, I would like to remind everyone about the celebration.

This celebration will honor the seventy-pound fish caught by Sir Richard S.
Musgrave, alongside a First Nations guide, during his vacation from England
in 1896. Several years later, the fish was destroyed in a fire but it’s
legacy lives on. The Homecoming of the Salmon will include a recreation of
an 1896 First Nations village, dancing, art displays, and Sir Richard
Margrave’s camp. A reproduction of the Tyee Salmon is being completed by
B.C. Wildlife Studios in Campbell River and plays a significant role in this
event.

This event is slated to occur during the annual Salmon Festival in August,
the premier millennium celebration of the district.

Celebration will begin at 12:30 with a parade and followed by an opening
dance by Gilas dancers. Speeches from local First Nations Chiefs and
Campbell River dignitaries, as well as the official ribbon cutting will
start at 1:00 pm.

· Place: Nunns Creek Park, Main gate
· Date: August 12th, 2000
· Time: 12:30 pm
