The Great Walk - Gold River to Tahsis

Organiser Betty Ganyo, "We're really excited about the response this year. We already have more than 600 paid-up registrants on file - up from just over 100 at about the same time last year. We may even hit our limit of 1,000 entries before the May 22nd registration deadline!"

Start of " The Great Walk "

It started in 1978 and the tradion continues this year on June 3, 2000. This first walk raised more than $5,000 towards their community centre.

Since then, the "Great Walk," has gained the reputation of being North America's toughest walkathon. Each year there are more participants, raising more money for more charities.Last year more than $95,200 was pledged to the B.C. Lions Society for Children with Disabilities and another114 worthwhile charities.Walkers who choose to do so solicit sponsors for the charities of their choice; others just walk for the challenge.
