(250) 287-9772

Denise is a long time resident of Campbell River who has been drawing and painting

seriously for the past five years. She is a self-taught artist who has been greatly

influenced by local renowned artists such as Sybil Andrews and Chris Wooton.

She works mainly with watercolor and pencil crayon, both which allow her to cover

large areas quickly. In a partnership of colour and movement she uses sudden line over

watercolor to build and shape her images. Ideas and subject matter come mostly from

her immediate surroundings, finding the simple beauty of the most ordinary objects.

Artist Statement

To me line represents movement and life.

Could there be life without movement?

Sweet line take me away,

make me more alive.

Show me the sunny warmth of love.

Expose me to the harsh reality of loss.

Yes let the line of emotion wash over me.

Let me feel the sunflower

reaching for the sun.

Let me roam the contours of a pumpkin.

Let me feel the silliness of a moment.

I repeat.

To me line represents movement and life.

Could there be life without movement?
